Google Voice, Google Talk, Google Chat

Google provides the following 3 services that sounds very much alike, and as far as I am concern, the name does not actually tell the user what the services actually does!  Here is my understanding of what each service does after my research, for people who really know the stuff, please let me know if my understanding is correct. Thanks

  • Google Voice: this is a phone management system, it give you a phone number, and you decide where this number get forwarded to when people call this number, you can have the incoming call forwarded to any or all of the phone number you choose, or go to voice mail, you can also specify which phone number(s) to be forwarded to depending on time of day, day of week etc. This is NOT a VoIP service. You cannot talk to anybody using Google Voice
  • Google Talk: You cannot "talk" to anybody in the normal sense, again this is NOT a VoIP service, this is actually an instance message service.
  • Google Chat: This is not the chat in the IRC sense, despite its name, this IS the VoIP service. Google Chat is the Video and Voice plugin for Google Talk. You have Google Voice forward you phone call to Google Chat. or you can chat between 2 Google Talk user on their computers
