Last night my son called me using the Qnap-based Asterisk (HK) to call my SZ-based Asterisk, the voice quality was not good. Then I used my SZ-OBi110 to call HK-OBi110, the voice quality was excellent.
I am wondering the reason between the two dialling methods. The first way is the Asterisk-to-Asterisk connection using sip port 5060, the second one is the OBi-to-OBi method using SIP port 10000.
There may have different ways to explore in order to improve the voice quality.
1) Asterisk outgoing port is changed from 5060 to other port such as port 10001, or
2) Asterisk with the aid of OBi110 for connecting different Asterisk in different countries.
Does anyone have the experience described above for sharing?

No idea, but network quality does matter.作者: yiucsw 時間: 2011-4-26 09:26
china/hk in/out network path may not be the same. and port congestion also.
i try to set the ip01 to port 10000 but not all device support this. so finally give up.
For me. the best service up to right now from china/hk is ET263 to ET263. which is very reliable. and the sound quality is good. much better than obi service.
Complain for obi service is non-stopped. especially the first 3 sec silent after pick up the phone.作者: leftright 時間: 2011-4-26 10:01
what is 3 sec silence after picking up the phone? no dial tone? or any other issue?作者: yiucsw 時間: 2011-4-26 17:03
dead silent. my girlfriend give me a hard time after i switch to OBI110. her side is Vigor 2910Vg. my side is OBI110. After she pick up the phone, there is no voice coming out of headset, sometimes i can hear her voice and sometimes she can hear me. It take few second before both side can listen. It is painful.作者: 雯雯 時間: 2011-4-26 17:10
I have similar experience, not only on Obi, also on other SIP provider, I have experienced this with SIPgate and callcentric both on Obi device as well as on CISCO 7906 SIP phone, I would same more serious on the Cisco hard phone作者: 角色 時間: 2011-4-27 07:05
both yiuscw and daibaan recall my memory of talking to other member over OBi110 device, the member complains that he picked up the phone and responsed with hello, hello twice before hearing my voice. I said that once I heard his voice and I started to speak to him without waiting.
As a result, it is confirmed that OBi device handing SIP has some delays of RTP packets for unfound and unknow reasons.

Also the sound quality in the first 10 second is better, then it become better and better. Which mean OBi110 start the SIP/network optimization after the conversation start.
Although one side is vigor router, I have not set up the VPN yet, so cannot compare with 雯雯 environment. as VPN already define the network package traffic. That is why i need to buy multiple vigor router to reduce the network package issue.作者: 角色 時間: 2011-4-29 08:52
In general, voip over vpn will give you more secure and reliable communication between two points. If you found that the voice quality improves after ten seconds and I believe it is worth to tolerate it if the rest of voice quality is good.
Anyway how many Vigor routers that you have already bought or are planning to buy? What are the models of the Vigor routers? Are you going to install them in Hong Kong, Macao, Guangzhou, and/or Beijing?

Currently i have two Vigor (2910/new 2920n) in hong kong. and 1 in GZ(new 2920n). Need to buy 1 more in macau. Regret for failing to install a 2930n in macau. which is incompatible to intel 5100agn. Although spending days with draytek support, it is fix some issue but has other issue pop up. finally I bought an new 6205 to fix the issue. (for me, the 6205 is very good)
Seems the 2930n is too high end for my low bandwidth network. which general traffic are slowing down for wireless connection. so can only use it as a general 2930 VPN gateway. for hong kong, it is not strong to penetrate walls.
Need to go thru another tough price negotiation for another 2920n. (each time, the shop increase the price!!!)
I believe there is many defects in the OBI110 especially OBI110 to OBI110 voip, so another trick to overcome it is to call OBI110's PSTN line. the local PSTN operator have very good filter/module to reduce echo, delay issue. or use OBI110 with ET263.
