標題: 香港的电话系统用G711.a (alaw)还是用G711.u (ulaw)？ [打印本頁]

香港的电话系统的codec用alaw还是ulaw呢?

ulaw codec主要是美加电话系统用比较多。
alaw codec主要是欧洲系统用比较多。

香港呢？我估计之前是用alaw比较比较多，但是慢慢ulaw也很多。我过HK OFTA，他们说两个都有用，要看你的VoIP provider用什么codec。

如果是这样，那么你的default codec会用什么呢？

刚才问过HKBN 2b，他们的Technical Support Personnel也不能提供这方面的信息。那么我们采用ulaw可能会比较好，因为很多系统都default是ulaw。

The Packet Voice Gateway is configured to only support A-law, u-law, and GSM. If you present it with any other codecs, it might not start the RTP connection to your SIP UA.

HKBN 2b 係用 alaw 的，其實兩者 algo 查唔多，而且兩者之間 transcoding is very cheap in terms of CPU cycle. Asterisk 本身就有 ulaw/alaw transcoder module (codec_a_mu.so). 你睇下 Asterisk CLI: "show translation" 就會知 how cheap it is to transcode between the two.

According to Wikipedia, the differences are:
"The µ-law algorithm provides a slightly larger dynamic range than the A-law at the cost of worse proportional distortion for small signals. By convention, A-law is used for an international connection if at least one country uses it."

可能因為咁所以 2b 會選用 alaw.
